Welcome,

This page focuses on presenting various Rock'n Roll Racing information not that easy to find, even 10 years after the game was released.

The two main items here are :

Larry "Supermouth" Huffman's comments, which are a tremendous aspect of the game.

Next, there is the "tracklist" of the game.

Larry's comments are, in order of the SNES sound test (in brackets are comments or actions the sounds refer to) :

Ouch
Holy Toledo
Unleashes hot fury (lots of missiles all at once)
Looks lost out there (when someone is really far behind)
Is dominating the race
Is headed the wrong way
Hits the warp (when hitting a turbo arrow)
Wow
Powers up (sometimes. I think it's linked to driving very fast without hitting anything for a while)
Finishes second
Takes a weak third
Is in another time zone
Olaf
Ivan (Ivanzypher)
Hawk (Cyberhawk)
Kat (Katarina Lyons)
Snake (Snake Sanders)
Roadkill (roadkill kelly) (sounds more like roadjoe...)
Butcher (Butcher Icebone)
Slash (J.B. Slash)
Rage (Ragewortt)
Jake (Jake Badlands) (what is he doing here among enemy drivers ?)
Grinder (Grinder X19)
Viper (Viper Mackay)
Rip
Shred
Tarquinn
Launches himself (ramp or jumping)
Scores a first place knock-out
Gets hammered (when you are shot down by enemy drivers)
Should avoid mines (when someone hits mines and explodes)
Lights him up (when you shoot an enemy down)
Jams into first
Fades into last
Spin out
Last lap
Is about to blow (sounds like an American pronunciation : is abouta blow)
The stage is set, the green flag drops.
Let the carnage begin
Wiped out

This is the most common understandings of the comments. If you think you have a relevant alternate understanding, feel free to contact me so that I mention it. But believe me, a lot of hypotesis have been rejected when compilating this list.

I all checked various versions of the game to find wether there were some regional differences. It seems there aren't.
However, it should be known that there is a beta version of the game (and perhaps the Playtronic version) which is a bit different.

Differences are as follow :

"Finishes second" is replaced by "Takes a weak second"
"Takes a weak third" is replaced by "Finishes third"
"Scores the first place knock-out" is replaced by something like "work out" (any help would be appreciated for solving this)

Besides, this version of the game doesn't play any sound for race ranking. Why the sounds are in the cartridge but not used is a mystery.

I have also spotted a few differences for this version, not linked to the sound.

First, in versus mode you can directly select Inferno. But Olaf still needs to use a trick to be selected.
Second, the default colour of first player's vehicle is blue (instead of red) and the three first vehicles are displayed from weaker to stronger (instead of stronger to weaker). You can check these differences there.

Sadly, the Japanese version doesn't feature Japanese voices. Might have been fun. The only differences are the Namcot logo at title screens and hiraganas subtitles when you can't buy a car, can't upgrade, can't go to the next stage (but not for race messages).

The Genesis/Megadrive versions have a different order (very messy) for the comments and is lacking some of them when compared to the SNES version.
The fact there are gaps when going through the voice sound test suggest that these comments were removed when the game was released.

The missing sounds are :

Holy Toledo
Gets hammered
Lights him up
Wiped out

Thus, what you can find in the cartridge is :

Is about to blow
Should avoid mines
Butcher
Let the carnage begin
No sound
Is dominating the race
Fades into last
Takes a weak third
Grinder
No sound
Hawk
Hits the warp
No sound
Jams into first
Ivan
Jake
Kat
Roadkill
Last lap
Launches himself
No sound
No sound
Olaf
Ouch
Powers up
Rage
Rip
Shred
Slash
Snake
Spin out
The stage is set, the green flag drops.
Scores a first place knock-out
Finishes second
Tarquinn
Is in another time zone!
Unleashes hot fury
Viper
No sound
Wow
Is headed the wrong way!
Looks lost out there

Oh, by the way, in case you don't know, the versions made for Sega consoles have a Blizzard logo instead of the Silicon & Synapse displayed in the SNES version. The reason why is that betweentimes Silicon & Synapse changed his name to became the now famous Blizzard. This change can also be spotted when comparing The Lost Vikings (Silicon & Synapse) and The Lost Vikings II (Blizzard)..

Now for the music :

SNES :

Bad to the bone, George Thorogood
Paranoid, Black Sabbath *
Highway Star, Deep Purple
Peter Gunn, Blues Brothers
Born to be wild, Steppen Wolf

* : Hearing how fastly paced the music is in RNRR, the music composer was probably inspired by the cover performed by Megadeth instead of the original.

Genesis/Megadrive versions feature one more song and are set in a slightly different order :

Bad to the bone, George Thorogood
Paranoid, Black Sabbath
Peter Gunn, Blues Brothers
Highway star, Deep Purple
Golden earring, Radar Love
Born to be wild, Steppen Wolf
